Caring for you, caring for your career...

In today’s increasingly busy world there is a growing trend for candidates to entrust recruitment agencies and consultancies with the task of finding their next position. It is therefore of paramount importance that your choice of consultancy is made very carefully as they will be acting on your behalf. If you are well represented your chances of success will be greatly enhanced. However, it follows that if you make the wrong choice your short and long-term career may be compromised.

A common mistake candidates make is to appoint numerous consultancies to represent you. It is easy to understand why candidates choose this course of action. After all, it is not an illogical conclusion to make that the more agencies you choose the more jobs you will be put forward for, and if all goes well, the greater choice of job offers you will receive.

The reality, however, is very different. In a large percentage of cases, what actually happens is that a number of agencies will hold the same job vacancies, resulting in clients potentially receiving the same candidate’s CV a number of times over from multiple sources. This has resulted in applications being taken no further as clients have not wished to become embroiled in arguments over who actually made the introduction. In addition, candidates using multiple agencies can give the impression that they do not care about “what is happening with their CV” and it follows that they can be deemed not to be taking their career seriously.

In conclusion it is imperative that you choose your consultancy representation carefully. There is no reason why the job-hunting process shouldn’t be a simple, stress free and rewarding process but please remember that this takes work, honesty, commitment and feedback from both sides. Happy job hunting!
